Parliamentary question on claims of epidemics at Syrian refugee

HDP Diyarbakır MP Sibel Yiğitalp has submitted a parliamentary question to the Ministry of Health Recep Akdağ with regards to the claims about contagious diseases spreading among Syrian refugees at refugee camps and those catching a disease being expelled without any treatment.

Reminding that there have been claims about Syrian refugees – especially, women and children – in AFAD Tekel Camp in Altınözü district of Hatay catching serious contagious diseases, such as tuberculosis, HDP MP Yiğitalp has officially brought up the issue through a parliamentary question.

‘Who is running the preventive health services?’

Asking whether there have been any investigation or examination to address the claimed situation, Yiğitalp has also posed the following questions:

‘Are the claims about contagious diseases being spread among the Syrian refugees staying at AFAK Tekel Camp in Hatay’s Altınözü district true?’

‘Are the claims about a great majority of the Syrian refugees having caught a contagious disease and been expelled from the camp without treatment true?’

‘Has an inquiry about the issue been started?’

‘Has a special health service unit been established with regards to the claimed diseases?’

‘How many refugees have caught diseases; and which diseases are those exactly?’

‘How many Syrian refugees are staying at AFAD Tekel Camp in Hatay-Altınözü?’ What are their ages and sexes?’

‘How many health professionals are on duty at AFAD Tekel Camp? Among them, how many of them are doctors and how many of them are other kinds of health professionals?’

‘What kinds of preventive health services are carried out at the refugee camps in general? Who runs these services and who monitors them?’
